Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt commuted Julius Jones’ sentence from being on death row to life in prison with no parole. Jones was only hours away from his execution. Oklahoma’s Pardon and Parole Board had twice recommended that his sentence be commuted. A diverse group of his supporters have long believed that he didn’t murder Edmond insurance executive Paul Howell during a carjacking. Jones had been on death row for 20 years.
