The United States government have fined Wells Fargo $3.7 billion for “widespread mismanagement” and “illegal activities” such as misapplying loan payments, wrongfully foreclosing on homes, illegally repossessing vehicles, incorrectly assessing fees and interests, and charging surprise overdraft fees. $2 billion of the fine goes to compensate consumers.
